I'm always surprised that couples that fit my personality always find me. Michael + Michelle love like they've never experienced pain and play like they grew up down the street from one another. They share a contagious joy and you can't help but get good feelings when you're around them. I couldn't help but constantly laugh at their McKinney Falls engagement session.

How They Met

They met just a little over 2 years ago through a mutual friend. He immediately caught Michelle's eye with his infectious smile and personality. They instantly became friends and the relationship grew from there.

"I think the sparks really started flying when he came over just to talk as I cooked for a friends party that he wasn't even attending just so he could spend time with me".

They went on their first official date to Canyon Lake to kayak and spent hours in the sun laughing, swimming and listening to music. "I knew this man was amazing. He was sweet, funny, thoughtful, smart, confident, driven, family oriented and he saw right through any walls that I had built through the years. I fell hard, so hard. I love this man more than words will ever be able to explain. I love us and the life we are building together."

How He Asked

I'm happy to say that I witnessed this part. Michael reached out to me with all the details of his plan. He blindfolded Michelle as he lead her up a path to view the Austin skyline. He ensured to keep her looking out at the scenery as he pulled the ring out and bent down to one knee. Once she said yes she was able to see that she was actually surrounded by her family and some of her closest friends.

The Plans

M+M will be announcing their vows in Spring 2022 at the beautiful and charming hill country venue The Chandelier of Gruene. I just photographed at this venue and I must say there are so many beautiful spots I may get lost in their bride + groom portrait session. I cannot wait to celebrate with them. Judging my the engagement session, I know we are going to have fun fun fun at the reception!

I'm embarrassed to say that prior to this engagement session I've never photographed the beauty of Enchanted Rock. While Thursdays are normally my self-care days there was a mix-up in the park reservation and we had to move up the session date. I'm so happy we did, and I'd do it all over again. The weather was perfectly sunny but cool and I couldn't have asked for such a loving and fun couple. Here is their story and only a few of my favorites from their large engagement session gallery.

Enchanted Rock Engagement Session

How They Met

They met in high school and dated for a couple of weeks but the time wasn't right and so they went their separate ways. Arthur joined the Navy and after 6 years of traveling all around the world, he moved back to Texas. They friended each other on Facebook and picked up where they left off. They've been inseparable ever since.

Pioneered by Arthur, Alicia journeyed into the world of fitness where they found a mutual passion and fell for one another. She said 'I love you' first and he waited 6 months before returning those dangerous words. Now there's no doubt these two are meant for each other.

"The cliche thing of finishing each other's sentences and being so in tune with your person is real. He's my best friend in all aspects of life, no one gets me like him"

The Proposal

They were in Austin for their 4th year anniversary and also attending a gymnastics course. They stayed in a cute airstream Airbnb and spent the evening of the proposal riding bikes all over the city. They made some stops along the way, visiting the bats under Congress Ave bridge and finally stopping for dinner. He was uncharacteristically fidgety and acting nervous but the moment must not have presented itself. They rode their bikes back to the airstream Airbnb where they'd wind down after a day of activity. Arthur proceeds to propose as Alicia is standing in the kitchen of the airstream in a state of nature.

Yes, butt naked. #CheeksOutPorposal

"I was shocked kind of embarrassed! My whole butt was out, but definitely zero reservations to the yes I laughed out! The answer had always been yes, I was just waiting for him to ask."

A+A are having an October "wedding festival" at the fun and unique hill country venue Elm Pass Woods. I cannot wait to celebrate their special day together with their family and friends. Is it really "working" if you're surrounded by people that feel like family?

Marlen will tell you she's not one for nature and prefers to be in the city, so we agreed to do the engagement session near downtown at the Long Center and Vic Mathias Shores where the cityscape can be seen. I also promised her some of the night shots she requested, so we made sure to start a little later to capture some daytime and nighttime photos.

These two are such a fun and loving couple! One thing I couldn't help but notice was how Francisco constantly admires her as she smiles and goes about her way. They've been together for years and they couldn't be a cuter match! I can't wait for this celebration and I'm thrilled that I get to be the one to capture their fall wedding at Canyonwood Ridge!

Enjoy some of my many favorites from their engagement session.

Just a few days before the wedding, Texas was in the dark and covered in snow but count on Issam + Natalia's union to bring back the warm and sunnier days we're used to. Their elegance, their charm, their strong family bonds, and of course their dancing skills made the perfect combination for an unforgettable event.

We spent the morning of the wedding day in their homes where they prepared for the big day. While the photos didn't fit into the blog, there were traditional celebrations even before heading to St. George Orthodox Christian Church where they'd become husband and wife. The aisle was filled with flowers and I felt the moment Natalia walked up the aisle play out like the scene of a movie. The doors opened and I could almost hear everyone hold their breath as Natalia slowly made her way to the altar.

After the ceremony, we turned to The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston where we took a few portraits before their grand entrance. The reception was filled with special dances, heartfelt and hilarious toasts, a cake that came down from the ceiling and pure fun! One of the things I love about Issam + Natalia is how loved they are by their friends! Every single person was ecstatic to celebrate with them, myself included! The party officially went on until midnight, but I doubt the celebration ended there.

To the new Mr + Mrs, It has been such an honor being part of your entire wedding journey from your proposal to your wedding day! You are two of the most kind and genuine individuals I've had the pleasure of meeting and I wish you all the best as you continue this exciting journey as husband and wife!

Their engagement session was supposed to happen last May but the pandemic swept in and took over everyone's plans. Between then and now Oscar + Giancarla's wedding plans have shuffled around a bit, but their plans for their engagement session at Laguna Gloria remained.

Having it all to ourselves, we walked around the property and talked about their careers, their dog Pepita and of course how last year was anything but normal and made wedding planning quite challenging.

The session was very peaceful and lovely and I hope that they enjoyed it as much as I did. This was the first engagement session of 2021 and it was so wonderful to start off with such an incredible couple. I can't wait to see them again! Enjoy some of my favorites from this beautiful session at Laguna Gloria! You're going to love these two just as much as I do!

Harper Hill Ranch Wedding | Seguin, Texas | Stephanie + Bianca https://www.photosbyyaz.com/blog/2021/2/harper-hill-ranch-wedding-seguin-texas-stephanie-bianca Harper Hill Ranch Wedding | Seguin, Texas | Stephanie + Bianca

I'm excited to share the very first wedding of 2021! Stephanie + Bianca met in Corpus Christi on an elevator when Bianca was on her way to a job interview. Little did she expect that Stephanie would be one of the people in the interview room. Click here to read the full story.

Some of their favorite memories together are watching dolphins in Port Aransas or the sunset as the waves rolled into one another. Unfortunately, both Stephanie and Bianca have encountered much loss in recent years and it was struggling through those hard times that really made them realize they wanted to be in each other's lives forever.

Stephanie + Bianca's much-anticipated day was full of energy and joy. To list a few of my favorite things from their Harper Hill Ranch wedding are the donut wall, the beautiful sunset, the farm animals (longhorns, llamas, and donkeys, yaaas!), and of course every girl's dream, late-night tacos! I also can't forget how they incorporated those family members they have laid down to rest.

While they had to postpone their wedding a couple of times, they still recall the most memorable part of wedding planning to be when they attended the Harper Hill Ranch open house and booked it that same day. I'm so glad they did! The drizzle that came in the morning of their wedding day had us all a bit concerned, but just look at the beautiful sunset photos we captured, and don't skip those last photos where the moon was the biggest I've ever seen it, and later when these brides dug in for late-night tacos from Taco Palenque

It was quite an honor to see every step of the way from right before Stephanie proposed the rest of their lives together.

Ladies, I wish you so much happiness and I can't wait to meet the boy you will be bringing into this world!

Cedric + Vic(tori)a are only 3 hours from where they met but the elegant and charming Stone Hall wedding venue at Texas Old Town was a drastic change from their beachside college years. Click here to view their engagement blog + photos. Their friends and family are unimaginably fun and I wish I could steal them for myself. Together they celebrated and even shed quite a few tears. Who knew so many people would show up to a Thursday wedding?

Their wedding day was so lovely and so them. They wanted beautiful portraits and all the candids they could have because they knew this was the crowd for it. It was such an honor to be trusted with their day and to photograph it the way they remember it. Watching these two start their life together was inspiring and encouraging. They love one another in such an authentic and joyous way. I'm thrilled to have been a small part of a such a big season of your life!!! Along with your amazing friends and family, I love you both, I support you, and I'm cheering for you!

Instead of a first-look with Cedric, Tori opted for one with her dad and brother.

Meanwhile, the guys were getting ready and recalling the bachelor party.

I can't get over how great everyone looked! This is quality magazine-material right here!

Just look at Cedric and his men looking all dapper.

And so it begins...

As Cedric watched Tori walk down the aisle, he was in tears and in awe of what stood before him. If you don't cry looking at these photos, you're not human.

They exchanged lots of sweet words, but I think my favorite part was when Tori promised Cedric she'd "learn to make more than just spaghetti".

It was a bittersweet moment for the best man.

High School Sweethearts Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Adrian + Sabrina https://www.photosbyyaz.com/blog/2020/10/high-school-sweethearts-engagement-session-austin-texas-adrian-sabrina High School Sweethearts Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Adrian + Sabrina

I'm very excited to share this engagement session with all of you. It's not often I get asked to photograph in the area "behind the boxing gym". Sabrina had a vision and we made it happen. You'd never believe that I was photographing while standing in the middle of the street, or that a busy street was just yards away.

How They Met:

Adrian was 15 and Sabrina 16 when they first met. That's Right, high school sweethearts! They immediately noticed each other kindness and fun-loving personalities. With time, texting turned into long night phone calls and soon enough Adrian was walking Sabrina to her classes. Although he already considered her his girlfriend, but after some Italian food he made it official on October 8th, 2010. Adrian's kindness continues to be one of the leading qualities Sabrina sees in him. "Every time I see him helping someone when he surely does not have to, it brings a smile to my face and I'm just in awe of him".

"It's been quite a journey full of emotions, but one thing was clear ... our love for each other never faded but continued to grow as we grew. We continued encouraging and supporting one another. Now we added some extra love with our 3 dogs that definitely keep the laughter and love going."

How He Asked:

Shortly after moving back to their hometown after college, Adrian took her out on a date in Austin for some good ole putt putt (her favorite), dinner, and a night on Congress Ave. They walked to the I Love You So Much mural and down on one knee he went. "It's time. Will you marry me?". You can image the delight on both their faces when she said yes. "Our hearts felt like they would jump out any moment".

Adrian & Sabrina will be tying vowing to one another next fall at Hummingbird House. You two have so much style and personality, I can't wait for the big celebration!

This past weekend I traveled to Houston to photograph Nick + Savanna's wedding. This wedding was a special one! 4 years ago, on this day they decided to take a chance and become a couple.

Their energy, their joy, their strong family bonds, their dancing skills... and a dog of honor to finish off, made for an incredible wedding day. There were tears, pride, and joy in the area as Nick + Savanna announced their vows to each other. Their love is undeniable and of course, I loved them as a couple when I first met them at their engagement session but on their wedding day, it was never more clear that their families just mold together. Who they are as individuals only make them a better part of who they are in union. Celebrating with their friends and family was unforgettable and they're definitely a group made for celebrating.

I'm still in shock that we were able to access the Karbach boiler room. According to staff, no one is allowed in there, especially guests. Savanna says I made all of Nick's dreams come true. Asking nicely has always paid off for me as a photographer.

I have loved to get to know them over the past year and I'm sure there were many more struggles than just planning a wedding during a pandemic. I'm honored to have been part of this beautiful day and even more blessed to call Nick + Savanna my friends.

N+S, Life will not always be a stroll in the park, but I know undoubtedly that you two will be there for one another as friends, as family, and certainly as husband and wife.

Mueller Lake Park Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Long + Georgette https://www.photosbyyaz.com/blog/2020/9/mueller-lake-park-engagement-session-austin-texas-long-georgette Mueller Lake Park Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Long + Georgette

I'm proud to announce Long + Georgette are one of mine! They joined the Photos by Yaz family earlier this year and unfortunately had to postpone their wedding due to the "C" word. They both have such genuine hearts and even after so many years, have such pride and admiration for one another. She is his loudest cheerleader and he's her #1 fan. I really can't wait to meet all their friends and family. This is sure to be the funnest group I'm yet to meet.

How They Met

Long and Georgette had a year of overlap together at St. Edward’s University. While they never talked, this is where they shared a class together and where Long first laid eyes on Georgette. He admits he immediately knew Georgette was Lebanese when he saw her sitting across the room and Facebook stalked her for months. He said he knew he would date her one day!

Georgette transferred to UT her sophomore year, while Long stayed at St. Ed’s. About a year later, she threw her best friend Isabel a birthday party. They told friends to bring more friends. Chanel invited Long – she gets the credit for officially bringing them together! They became friends after the party, but only saw each other from time to time. The next year, Long asked Georgette to go on a date! He picked her up with flowers in hand, took her out to an Italian dinner, and ended the night at Doug Sahm Hill, a hidden gem off of Lady Bird Lake where they sat together and took in the views of the lake and city! From 2013 to 2019, they not only grew up together, but they also grew closer to one another. While they were able to enjoy being young, they still learned how to “adult” together—as best they could in their 20’s!

How He Asked

On November 24, 2019, they went to Mass. Afterward, Long tricked Georgette into thinking she was going to an event with Isabel. On the way, he took a “wrong turn” and ended up at the same spot he took her to on their first date. When they made it to the top of the hill, he proposed! It was such a special moment – it was so emotional that neither of them remembers anything after Long got down on one knee.

By their wedding date, they would have dated over 8 years. These amazing years have made them a stronger couple and feel confident that they are ready to be husband and wife! They are also very excited that their ceremony will take place where Long was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic Church last year. They feel very lucky that they get to begin this new chapter of their lives with so much love and support, both near and far!

If Jason + Ashley look familiar to you it's because I did their engagement and wedding photos! I feel so honored to be one of the first (that is not family) to get to hold and play with the baby. This little ball of love's name is Eli, he was born weighing 7 pounds 6oz and 20in long. Not only was he a perfect sleeping baby for his entire session but we even got to do some lifestyle photos with the hairy, four-legged older brother.

Here are some of my many favorites. I absolutely adore his nursery!

I constantly rave about Chapel Dulcinea for how beautiful and affordable it is. This was my last couple before the stay-at-home order was announced however Chapel Dulcinea continues to be one of the best settings for intimate ceremonies and elopements.

Edward and Anna met in grade school and recently reconnected. I was only with them for a little over an hour but experienced the Catholic Ceremony, family portraits, couple portraits, and even the bouquet toss alongside them.

It's always a blessing to me to be part of something so intimate. Here are a few of my favorite moments and parts of the day.

If Dana looks familiar to you, she wore that stunning red dress for her maternity session I posted on Instagram a while back. Dante Erik is the star of the show since his arrival a few days before the in-home session. One of the reasons I love newborn lifestyle photography is because there's no pressure on the new one to put on a performance. I'm sure this is the easiest modeling job Dante will ever have. He wanted to sleep? Ok. He's hungry? No problem. He just wants to be held and loved on? Perfect.

Take a look at some of my favorites from their in-home session.

Right outside of San Marcos and New Braunfels is this hidden gem of a wedding venue Harper Hill Ranch, just look at those beautiful windows! I wasn't sure I was headed the right way until I saw the Barn on the top of the hill. Stephanie + Bianca chose this location for their wedding so there was no better fit to have the engagement session done here as well.

Bianca + Stephanie are one of my handful of my COVID couples. This means they had to postpone their spring 2020 wedding because we were all on lockdown. It broke my heart to see so many couples worry about what was going to happen because no one had answers. Some celebrated by opening gifts and others by enjoying some quality time on what would have been the day they announced their vows.

How They Met:

They both entered the elevator and pressed the number 7 after which they stood in silence in their respective bubbles of the small space as each floor passed by. When the doors finally opened, Bianca went left and Stephanie went right. Minutes later, Bianca found herself across the interview table from Stephanie hustling to get the job at an advertising firm in Corpus Christi -- My hometown!

I imagine that in a very lively conversational tone Bianca spoke about marketing campaigns, studying abroad in Europe and of course, Texas A&M. All while Stephanie sat in silence, shielded by her laptop. When the CEO asked Stephanie if she had any remaining questions for Bianca, she uttered the first words she would ever say to Bianca.

"Can you make lists?"

Needless to say, Bianca got the job and to Stephanie's delight, Bianca was good at making lists. Their close work relationship led to breakfast taco runs and lunches at Czech-Mex Bakery, especially when they were working late at the office.

Some of their most fond memories are when they shared their first kiss at the St. Patrick Day Block Festival in Corpus Christi and when they had their official first date which included dinner at Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen and just sitting in the car listening to the waves on Ocean Drive. It was here that after waking up from a nap Stephanie looked over at Bianca and asked her, "Will you be my girlfriend?"

A year later Bianca accepted a job in San Antonio, so they packed up their 4 pups and moved.

How She Asked:

A traveling Lantern Festival was making its way near San Antonio in the coming months, and when Stephanie got wind of the event, she began making plans for a romantic, star-filled proposal. While Bianca knew about the event, she had no idea what Stephanie had planned. She even convinced Bianca that they should try to get photos taken by the event staff that would be walking around. (I was the "staff" photographer).

I arrived early and even met up with Stephanie to take hold of the ring until the right moment. I walked around and took photos of random groups to give the impression that I was part of the event and not a total stalker.

Stephanie and Bianca at the Lantern Festival before the surprise proposal. Stephanie and Bianca at the Lantern Festival before the surprise proposal. Stephanie and Bianca at the Lantern Festival before the surprise proposal.

As the sun began the set and the lanterns started to fill the sky, they prepared their matches and started setting up.
Lanterns in the sky at the Lantern Festival. Lanterns in the sky at the Lantern Festival. Lanterns in the sky at the Lantern Festival.
After failed attempts at lighting the first and second lantern, it finally happened. They both knelt down, posing for photos with their lantern now lit and as Bianca stood up to prepare for the lantern to float away, she glanced down at Stephanie still kneeling. Trembling, Stephanie grabbed the ring box that I sneakily placed at her feet and asked Bianca a life-changing question. With so much commotion, for a moment I was confused when Bianca responded,

"Are you Serious?!"

When she realized Stephanie wasn't joking, she quickly said, "Yes!" and asked if she wanted to get the "event photographer" to get a photo of this moment. Much to Bianca's surprise, I was there specifically for them.

Bianca + Stephanie sure have been through a lot over the years and with having to postpone their March wedding for August, it's one I most anticipate. I can't wait to party it up with you two, friends!

Travels + Life Events + Lessons Learned

January happened in the blink of an eye so here I am two months into the year posting my highlights of 2019. You won't see too many wedding pictures here. This is a personal post and since 2019 was a huge game-changer, you'll hear about most of it.

Life Event | My Sister Got Married

My first wedding of last year was my sister Vanesa + Robert's elopement. Nothing too fancy, just a legal document. Of course, this meant she'd now have to live with the boy. I'm an emotional girl and I'm not very good at hiding how I feel, but I think I held it together pretty well up until right after we took our last picture in the apartment. It was bittersweet because it was a sign that time had passed.

At first, this place didn't feel like home. The first few nights of stormy weather, we caught one another trying to sneak into the other's room. We grabbed our pillows and like a scene from a sitcom, we met in the hallway "Your room or my room?".

We filled the space between these walls with inspirational quotes, images of our adventures, intense conversations, and wine. Lots of wine. We celebrated the little victories like when a photo of mine was published in a magazine or when she enrolled in College. We talked-out the pain of separation and divorce. It's a topic no one likes to talk about, but anyone that's been through it knows that it feels like two steps in one direction and one step back. Some days were made for bra-less livingroom dancing and others for sleeping and relaxing. After a while, this place didn't feel so cold and it started to feel a lot more like home. I left the gallery wall up until the very last minute and as I was taking it down, I felt another chapter of closing.

Travel | Stockholm, Sweden

It wasn't until after feeling the sudden bite of the Swedish winter while walking the bridge to Gamla Stan that I realized I MADE IT TO STOCKHOLM IN ONE PIECE!! This is a big deal for a person like me who had an irrational fear of flying over water because of sharks. (It's too long of an explanation to write). The Swedes are some of the most beautiful people I've ever seen and are proud -- yet humble. I immediately noticed how underdressed I was to be walking the town. The streets are a runway and they walk with their favorite high-fashion coats and attractive scarfs. I fell in love with the soft sounds of walking on cobblestone and the lively flare of Viking culture. I departed Sweden with a joyous heart and a new stamp on my passport. I can't wait to revisit this beautiful place. There's so much more to see than what I experience in only 4 days.

Travel | Luxor, Egypt

I called my sister and told her about a seminar that was happening in Egypt where two of my favorite photographers would be. Her response was, "Do it now before you think too much about it". So on a whim, or call it a manic episode, I booked the seminar and I booked the flight.

I wouldn't even have recovered from the jetlag from Sweden before I took off to Egypt. I was only in the U.S. for four days. I couldn't even tell you what day it was.

Anxiety gets the best of me so I made sure to share my itinerary and location from both my phones with my family, and I made sure to get all the shots I needed. Friends warned me about travel advisories and my brothers told me to kick anyone in the balls that came at me. I went through the motions of getting my bags checked and it wasn't until I realized I had made a mistake on the time I'd arrive that I started to panic! A taxi was supposed to be waiting for my arrival to take me to the hotel but silly me told them I'd arrive at 5 pm instead of 5 am. I called the hotel and they told me to get money from the bank at the airport and get a taxi. I later realized they wouldn't open for another 5 hours, so I tried the ATM instead -- which was in Arabic. It sounds ridiculous, but in an empty terminal, I caved under a table with my bags and just sat there for a while. I felt defeated. Eventually, I saw a man walk up to the same ATM and I watched from a distance as I tried to memorize the buttons he was pushing to withdrawal money. As soon as he was done I immediately walked up to the ATM and withdrew.... the button on the bottom right? That looked like enough.

I knew walking out of the airport I'd find a crowd of men that spoke another language, guiding me to their cars so I knew I had to mentally prepare myself. This happens quite a lot when I'm alone. Just as I suspected, people were grabbing my bags and pulling me in one or another direction. I found someone that spoke English and hopped in. I told him where to take me but along the way, he kept asking me if I wanted to go to the Bazaar or another area. "No thank you, my husband and brothers are waiting for me." Here's a picture of my driver. He has 5 daughters.

My anxiety had me thinking, "Well, this is where I die" so I loudly had my GPS on to make sure we were going the right way. On this 20 minute drive, I saw hungry kids and soldiers with rifles on the streets. It was definitely a culture shock after having just visited the place IKEA was born. The hotel had guards at the front with more rifles and when I walked into the lobby I was welcomed with open arms by Lelia. I was expected to arrive 2 hours earlier after I called, but as I mentioned, I needed to gather myself. "I thought you had been kidnapped!" That was shocking to hear, but I was glad to be where I needed to be. I walked into my room and cried out all the built-up emotions. This was my OH-SH**-what-did-I-just-do moment. My how-did-I-get-here-and-what-as-I-thinking moment. I was so hungry but too tired to care, so I passed out on the bed.

Here are a couple of photos of the hotel:

I love this photo because I think it describes our friendship perfectly. I actually met Beth at a 10-person seminar in Washington, DC back in August 2017 and although she only lives 6 hours away, here we are across the globe meeting once again.

The following day I and two other ladies woke up before the sun came up to get a lift on a hot air balloon. I guess I didn't wear the proper clothing because I was freezing in the desert and our driver let me borrow the scarf on his head.

The Egyptian sunrise was one of the most beautiful I've ever seen and I was amazed by there was a clear distinction between the farmlands and the entrances to the desert.

After the hot air balloons, our driver decided he'd be our personal chauffeur and took us to have coffee and falafel.

Our newly-found chauffer called himself "Mr. No Problem" because whatever we asked, he would make it happen. Mr. No Problem chartered us a ferryboat to Banana Island (Gezira el-Mozh) where we walked through the farmland and ate bananas straight from the trees.

I was in awe to be in the very waters my favorite bible story mentions where Moses was found in the Nile River.

Of course, the seminar with Lelia and Jose was a dream.

I made a new very talented friend from Germany and connected with a curly-haired Puerto Rican.

I regret not visiting the Bazaar but I did do some shopping and even met the lady that made the scarfs I purchased.

On our last day, we entered the desert at sunrise where we were advised to hide below the dunes so that we weren't seen. There were many reasons for that.

After the desert shoots, we visited The Mortuary Temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu where we ran into a class that was on a field trip. They politely asked for selfies and to touch my hair.

When I was a little girl, I would flip through National Geographic or watch the travel channel and learn about places like this one and wonder what it would be like to discover an ancient tomb. It turns out there are still over 400 tombs to be excavated. Sadly, many of the burial items have been stolen throughout the years, but what a historic treasure!

I did everything the CDC says not to do. I drank the water, I ate the food from the street and I dipped my feet in the Nile River. It was an unforgettable experience and the friendly Egyptian people along with the people I met while I was there are what made this trip as amazing as it was.

Life Event | My Brother Got Married

My second elopement of the year was also in the family -- the goofball of all the Moreno's and my big brother that always makes sure my car is running as it's supposed to. Gamaliel (aka Gumby) looks complete and happier than ever. I gained a sister that loves to facetime and keeps me in check when I'm starting to look sloppy. Most importantly, they love Sunday brunch as much, if not more.

Live Event | I Got My Own Place

I left Kyle behind and moved back to Austin! This is where I belong, near the greenbelt and blocks away from downtown. Being the boss of my own domain is a great feeling but it also means learning I had to learn to kill my own creepy-crawlers when they tried moving in. Somehow living alone taught me my strengths showed me my uglies.

I spent countless hours at IKEA, Target, and HomeGoods just to get my place the way I wanted. I put up a new arrangement of my gallery wall, started patio gardening and binge-watched episodes of Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. I made it my safe-haven and tranquil place to decompress.

Lessons Learned | Mental Health

The past 3 years have been rolling hills of highs and lows. I'm proud to say I'm more open with my family about my mental health, and it's not uncommon to be asked uncomfortable questions by them like,

"How are you feeling today?"

"Have you been taking your pills?"

"Have you had suicidal thoughts lately?" "How are you dealing with it?"

"Are you still going to therapy?"

Being more open about this topic has moved people to reach out to me privately via social media. For me, it was no longer acceptable to keep quiet when I realized how many people suffer from mental illness and never get help. It's been helpful to surround myself by those who either don't understand but won't judge or those who do understand. They get that some days "I don't feel well" can mean I have diarrhea or that I don't feel emotionally stable.

I've learned to stay away from sugar and caffeine because they make me swing from one side to another. The same goes for alcohol.

I've learned to say "No" to the things that I know will have me emotionally triggered.

When I get too anxious, I focus my mind on something else like Sudoku.

Not everyone understands the difference between being sad and being depressed, and even less understand the difference between being unipolar and being bipolar. In addition to that, mental illnesses come in bundles which means they include anxiety and even those lovely panic attacks. I'm no one to coach others, but I'm available to anyone that feels lost.

I'm thankful to have such a large and supportive family. We don't always agree, but there's always unconditional love there.

Love you all,

<3 Yaz

As you were popping fireworks or maybe sleeping into the new year, I was with this beautiful couple at the historic wedding venue The Mansion. There’s no better way to ensure that party atmosphere than to throw a killer party on New Year's Eve.

I always say wedding planners and wedding coordinators are essential for a smooth and run wedding. After following Curtis + Vanessa on social media, I wondered how they had time to plan a wedding with being such an active part of the community but with the help of Veronica from Awe Events ATX, the wedding went down without anyone losing their sanity.

The Mansion has a lovely little hidden courtyard that's perfect for a private moment and a few pictures. Vanessa, in her timeless Sarah Seven wedding gown, met with Curtis before the ceremony for their first-look, and his reaction did not disappoint.

The ceremony ambiance was dreamy and one of my favorite parts of the reception was the Ballet Folklorico. I love it when the couple includes a surprise performance for their guests. I also can't forget to mention the midnight fireworks or the getaway horse carriage. Such a fun wedding!

They vacationed in Costa Rica for their honeymoon, hiking through lava fields and living the life. Congrats my friends, and I can't wait to see what amazing things you do together.

Austin Engagement Photographer | Photos by Yaz

Shortly before 2019 ended, I met up with new friends that seemed I had known forever! We bonded over military stories and true crime. What more could I ask for?

Brian + Katrina drove in from Hutto to have then engagement session done at the beautiful Laguna Gloria, and I can’t stop scrolling through how beautiful they are. You can’t deny they had fun.

How They Met:

Brian and Katrina met at the Art Institute when they were enrolled in the same business class and found themselves waiting in the hall for the door to open. He’d make snarky remarks at her, but she loved it and wanted him in her circle of friends anyway.

Over the course of the semester, they became friends and with time, best friends. She proudly had him in the “friend zone” for 2 years while he chased her. She moved all over the country during those two years and he’d visit her wherever she went. Katrina finally moved back to Texas to volunteer for Hurricane Harvey relief with Brian. He’d drive to Houston every weekend to see her, but after a while, things seemed to die down. The visits were less frequent and her phone wouldn’t light up as often. This was the moment she realized she missed him more than she thought to admit. “So the next time he came to see me, I asked him if he wanted to be done chasing me and by my boyfriend. That was that. After more than two years of being my best friend, I let my guard down completely and he has made me happier than I ever thought possible ever since.”

How He Asked:

Brian arrived at 6 am Christmas morning after having to work throughout the night for Christmas eve. They started their gift exchange and he seemed somewhat nervous and excited. He saved a small wrapped gift for last and when Katrina unwrapped it, he took the box, opened it, got down on one knee and asked her to be his best friend, his partner, forever. “I’m so excited to marry this man, being with my best friend is the most amazing experience of my life.”

Katrina + Brian, I’m so excited for you two. I'm sorry I missed karaoke but I promise to party and sing at the top of my lungs with you on your wedding night!

Dhivya and I have been "Facebook official" friends for a while now, since July 2018 to be exact. I've seen them get legally married, buy a house together and add a pup to their family so imagine my excitement when she asked me to photograph their Catholic + Hindu religious unions. With Dhivya's A-type organization skills, they did an unmatched job of blending two different backgrounds.

It's always a good feeling when at the end of the night, you get invited to the afterparty and the couple refers to you as family. I know Herman and Dhivya are loving people, but I witnessed it first hand when their family and friends united to celebrate them. You couldn't tell who was family and who was a friend as to Dhivya and Herman, this definitive line appears as a blurry mess.

My favorite part of the day was Herman + Dhivya's performance that opened up the dance floor. It was a perfect blend of the type of dancing I've seen in Bollywood films and Dirty Dancing. There was so much sass and playfulness that it left you wide-eyed with the energy and excitement to dance. I asked them for a sneak peek of their dance routine during their engagement session and it looked nothing like what I saw at the reception. You guys did an amazing job!

I don't know about you, but sometimes I scroll through other photographer's wedding blog posts, you see pretty pictures and the gorgeous couple, but you don't really feel you KNOW them. I'm thankful for my couples who become friends and who allow me into their lives. Dhivya + Herman, Congratulations!!!!! Your dream team couldn't be more excited for you two!! Enjoy your wedding day sneak peeks from our perspective.

Herman + Dhivya just got a new place together so I thought it was only appropriate for me to make myself at home and meet them there. I was immediately greeted by the dogs and Dhiv's parents. We started with an in-home session and drove over to Richard Moya Park where all the sunset magic happens.

How They Met:

It was the the first few hours of the new year 2015 and Dhivya decided to join OKCupid as she was watching Law and Order SVU. I guess the show inspired her to believe meeting strangers is an exciting thing. *Bah-dum-tss* Herman was playing xbox and winding down for the evening with Romsie -- the oldest of the pups when he came across a beautiful girl in a yellow sari (the exact one she wore for the engagement session). They exchanged messages which led to exchanging phone numbers and Dhivya making the first move with a phone call.

He was taken back by how forward she came off, but he loved it and they talked into the following day. Eventually, they hung up around 3am and made plans to meet in person at the W that same day. When he walked in to meet her, time seemed to take it's time as if to self-declare that this was the moment that changed it all. She was even more beautiful in person.

Dhiv knew Herman was the one when she saw how he interacted with not only her family but his own, and of course the pups. While he claimed to be a selfish person, he does the most selfless things and always puts other first.

How He Asked:

Herman proposed to Dhivya where they celebrated their second date, Phara's Mediterranean Cuisine. They had friends and family in town and while he had already purchased the ring, he had no intentions of proposing that night. For some reason, something told him to take it along with him anyway. As they were having dinner, the moment quickly struck him and down on one knee he went. All he could hear was, "Something is happening!"

On their first date, a stranger asked how long they had been married and almost 5 years later on November 23rd, they'll be uniting two backgrounds, two communities, and two families with a Catholic and Hindu religious wedding ceremony.

Dhivya and I have been Facebook friends since she asked me to photograph an event last year. Since then, I've seen them celebrate the good times and buy a house together. I'm so honored to be the one to photograph your union. It's going to be an emotional day. I'm serious, I love you two so much I don't know if I'll be able to keep it together. I'll see you next month! Eeeeeek!

How They Met:

They met at UTMB Galveston while she was in Occupational Therapy school and Nick was in Physical Therapy school. Their first date was at a tiny local coffee shop and when Nick asked if she liked Coffee "a latte".... well, just imagine her heart eyes lit up like the emoji. Since then they've been inseparable. Their relationship is built on love, friendship, bad puns and SpongeBob references. They also have a mutual love for queso, which they always find a way to fit into their food budget.

Nick admires how. much genuine love Savanna shows for others, especially their dog Lucy -- also featured in their engagement session. Savannah says that one of her favorite things about her fiancé is how silly he can be yet how hard working he is.

How He Proposed:

It all happened at Heights Bier Garten and despite all the red flags, Savannah didn't see it coming. Once she noticed the rose petals and framed photos she thought to herself, "OMG, IT'S HAPPENING!" Both sides of the family were there as well as a few close friends. It wasn't until the end of the night when they were in the car that they realized they couldn't remember a thing they said other than that a she said "Yes!"

Nick + Savanna, I had so much fun with you both during the engagement session. You never miss an opportunity to be silly and funny with one another and I love that about you. I'll see you at the wedding!

Curtis + Vanessa crossed paths while working on a project together during the now-historic 11-hour Wendy Davis filibuster for women’s healthcare rights during the 2013 Texas Legislative Session. Vanessa says she made the first move, but something about the way she described her “move” made me believe it was all Curtis. Not much time passed before they started exploring Austin's culinary scene together. They discovered a mutual appreciation for red wine, travel and British TV shows. Together, they've traveled through the United Kingdom, Mexico (where they got engaged), Southeast Asia, and the US.

The couple will celebrate their union with a New Years' Eve Wedding at the Texas Federation of Women's Clubs. I cannot wait for the wedding!

As soon as the elevator doors opened, Julia welcomed me with a big smile. I was as the hotel to pick up her dress because they weren't allowed inside the Ceremony/Reception venue until an hour and a half before the ceremony. As photographers, sometimes we do what needs to get done in order to make things happen.

Isaac + Julia have waited a long time for this day and it was perfect. The Allan House is filled with character as well as charm and is one of the top historic wedding venues Austin has to offer. With the help of Mancino IronMonarch Event Rentals, and Wild Bunches Florist they transformed the courtyard into a modern and luxurious space. While this wedding was a visual dream, it was also so heartfelt, endearing and of course, fun. I felt so honored to capture their day for their family and friends to remember forever. Enjoy some of my favorite images that tell a visual story of their day!!

Mayfield Park Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Cole + Michelle https://www.photosbyyaz.com/blog/2019/10/mayfield-park-engagement-session-austin-texas-cole-michelle Mayfield Park Engagement Session | Austin, Texas | Cole + Michelle

Austin Engagement Photographer | Photos by Yaz

You'd never know from these pictures, but the evening of the engagement session took a turn when the park we were supposed to photograph at was closed for repairs. So, I did what any professional would do and photographed around the Parking Lot!

How They Met:

Michelle would often fly out to Red Bluff, California to visit her best friend whom she met while in the nursing program at UMHB. It was during one of those visits that Cole noticed photos of Michelle on their mutual friend's Instagram and decided to stop creeping, and instead, reach out to her directly. At the time, Michelle thought he was too young (he's only a year younger than her) so she dismissed it and moved on. Two years later, a beautiful man appeared on her Instagram feed and she scrolled all the way to the birth of his page to like a couple of his photos hoping to let him know she was watching. He messaged her within an hour and their relationship took flight. They maintained a long-distance relationship for two years, surprising each other on special weekends and holidays. It only got more and more difficult to say goodbye each time they had to take a return flight home, knowing that it would be months before they'd get to see each other again.

How He Asked:

Somewhere along the way, they became best friends and as time went on, they couldn't imagine a life without one another. They started talking in November 2016 and two years later on Thanksgiving 2019, Cole + Michelle along with their family held hands and spoke about what they were thankful for. When it was Cole's turn, he nervously gave his speech, looked into Michelle's eyes and asked her to be by his side forever. Once Michelle graduated from the nursing program, Cole finally made the move to Texas.

Cole + Michelle, you two are super sweet, and I'm so bummed I don't get to follow you to California to photograph your union. I know it's going to be an unforgettable event filled with the love and joy your friends and family share with you. Maybe we can have another tiny-but-mighty drink when you return?

How They Met:

They met their freshman year of college at the beach on Labor Day. They were introduced to one another and only said a friendly “hi” in passing. It wasn’t until a year later that they got to know each other at their community pool. It was pretty late into the evening and the beach-side breeze was starting to cool the air, so people headed indoors for the rest of the night. Cedric seized the opportunity to introduce himself by asking her to jump into the chilly water with him. Both scared to jump into the cold water, they held hands and plunged right in. They’ve been on this adventure ever since.

Cedric was drawn to the energy Victoria puts out to those around her. He fell in love with her early into their relationship but would tell her “I adore you” as to not scare her off. This hopeless romantic knew she was the one when she fell asleep on him while watching a movie. This felt like home.

How He Asked:

On Easter Day they went on a family vacation to California and visited Disneyland. As they arrived, Victoria noticed everyone around them being very secretive. Shortly after visiting with Captain Hook and taking pictures, Hook disappeared, and Cedric knelt to say a few sweet words to his soon-to-be fiancé. Of course, with tears in her eyes, she screamed “Oh my god, YES! I love you” and everyone surrounding them starting cheering in celebration.

Together, they left Corpus Christi behind and will be getting married in Kyle, Texas at Texas old Town -- Right where they took their engagement photos.

I love meeting couples who are just as excited about their photo session as I am. I seriously have the best couples around. Sam + Colleen have such huge hearts and even after several years together they still find ways to flirt with one another and make each other laugh.

How They Met:

On the evening before Halloween (queue creepy music) while on a blind group date, three gals were paired with three 'handsome' guys on a blind date in Houston. Guy 1 was dressed as a Cowboy, Guy 2 was dressed as a Pirate and last but not least, Guy 3 was dressed as Where's Waldo. It was Sam, the quirky kid dressed as Where's Waldo, complete with a red and white had and thick black glasses that drew Colleen's attention and clearly became her favorite.

Despite the fact that the guys were the only ones in costume, the group hit if off immediately. The night carried onto a night full of karaoke and drinks. At the end of the night, Sam who hadn't had much time to spend with Colleen, surprised her by asking for her number. The rest was history -- the two quickly became inseparable; especially as Colleen always describes it, she knew that quirky cutie was a keeper.

Fast forward five years and may adventures together... Waldo  Sam and Colleen were embarking on yet another trip, heading to Bali, Indonesia for their holiday vacation. Shortly before the trip, Colleen surprised Sam with a new puppy who they named Max. Little did she know, Sam planned an even bigger surprise.

How He Asked:

After a near miss at the airport where the agent at the check-in counter almost ruined the surprise, Sam managed to get an unsuspecting Colleen to the top of the mountain at Kelingking beach on Nusa Penida, a small island off the coast of Bali. It was there that he got down on one knee and proposed -- completely surprising Colleen and bringing her to tears. That day unforgettably marked the beginning of a new chapter of their adventure together. That day Sam + Colleen exploded the wonders of Nusa Penida island and ended the evening watching the sunset during a private dinner on the pier of the Ayana Resort in Bali

While they call Houston their home, they'll be marrying in Austin at Matties - Green Pastures. I can't wait you guys!!

They joke that she fell in love with him all because he bought her a whopper, but in reality, it's one of those too-good-to-be-true and meant-to-be kind of stories. Their paths must have crossed hundreds of times as they practically lived down the street from one another, but it wasn't until freshman year at LSU (Geaux Tigers), that they finally met.

One of Johnny + Jana's favorite moments together was when they had dinner at Blue Dahlia Bistro and split a bottle of wine by candlelight. Being new to Austin, they visited the hideout theater and ended the night at Voodoo Doughnut -- their favorite part. Knowing only each other and moving to Austin together was one of the big relationship moments.

They vacationed in Spain for 2 weeks for their honeymoon sipping wine, eating paella, and gelato and visiting some beautiful Instagramable locations giving the rest of us vacation-envy.

This is probably the largest blog I've ever put together, I just love every single image. Johnny + Jana, I just love you two so much! It was truly an honor for my team to be part of your special day and thank you for letting me document this major milestone in your relationship!

It's been close to a year since my last wedding at Stone House Ranch and for Jimmy + Bryanna, this was the perfect place to celebrate their formal union. It was beautiful from beginning to end and friends and family flew in from different states to celebrate alongside them. One of my favorite things about Jimmy + Bryanna is their close connection to friends and family. You could feel it in the atmosphere that everyone was excited to be there and celebrate with them and their two girls.

Another cherished moment was when Bryanna demonstrated humility and heart by kneeling to share her promise and vows to her stepkids. *Golden Photo Moment*

This is one I will not soon forget. Jimmy + Bryanna, I love you both to pieces and I couldn't be happier for you. I'm incredibly honored to be the one to save the memories of your big day!

I witnessed something beautiful that surrounded Jeff and Shivani just a few days before their wedding. They share a laughter, joy and love that crosses all boundaries. It was wonderful to see the people closest to them celebrate their union with food, dance, as well as with many ceremonies and traditions. Indian wedding last several days with each day packed with ceremonies that have been observed now for centuries.

Haldi Ceremony:

Shivani + Jeff invited me to photograph their Haldi Ceremony where friends and family apply turmeric or haldi to their face and body. Turmeric works wonders for the skin but it's also believed to protect the couple from any calamity or misfortune that may hurt them before their big day. According to hindu texts it's also said to have purification powers and applying the paste cleanses the body and soul for a new life together. There are so many smiles and laughter during this application process that all the wedding day jitters and stress tend to disappear.

Chooda + Kalire Ceremony:

Bangles or Chooda are one of the most evident displays of a new bride. This tradition is significant in Punjabi weddings and can be quite emotional. The "it's happening" feeling starts to set in with friends and family, and everyone watches as a member of the maternal family slips on the bangles one at a time. A Punjabi bride's wedding attire is incomplete without the dazzling kalire which is the ornamental metal jewels that hang from the bangles. After these are properly placed, the bride shakes her bangles on the heads of single people. It's believed that if any part of the kalire falls on that unmarried individual, they're likely to be the next to get married -- kind of like the western tradition of throwing a bouquet.

Jeff + Shivani, Thank you for allowing me to photograph these very meaningful moments in your lives. I wish you a happy lives together with peace and prosperity.

Nathaniel and Jennifer found exactly what they were seeking for their wedding day at Pecan Spring Ranch. February 24th marked a significant date for these two. It was the date they became boyfriend and girlfriend 6 years ago, and it's the date they became husband + wife. They didn't want anything over-the-top. No bridal party, no big surprises -- Just a Mr + Mrs announcement and to party with their closest friends and family afterward.

Together, they've built a life of experiences. They love to travel, they love their friends and family and of course, their adorable labradoodle Blue.

There are so many wonderful things I could say about this day...the couple...their close-knit family...their contagious joy, but I'll let the images speak for themselves.

Congrats my friends, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for you!

You know the type of couple you met for the very first time and depart feeling sore from all the belly laughs? This is one of those couples. Dale and Krissy bring so much joy to one another and laugh and play like two teenagers in love. I am one lucky girl to call them my friends and am honored to be photographing one of the best seasons of their lives. Here are some of my favorites from their cloudy engagement session at Texas Old Town

How They Met:

They met several years ago and as time went on, they lost touch. One day Krissy's Instagram profile was suggested to Dale as a person he may know. They followed each other and eventually, their conversations turned into dates. It wasn't until after Krissy had back surgery that she knew he was the one for her. While she was in the hospital, she wanted nothing more than to simply wash her hair. I sympathize with her because we all have that one simple thing in a miserable situation that makes us feel better. Dale put his swim trunks on, made something for Krissy to wear so that her back incisions wouldn't get wet and guided her to have a seat in the shower so that he could wash her hair for her. Krissy told me, "We are always there for one another no matter the situation".

How He Asked:

After spending an evening fishing in the gulf and spending quality time with the family in Port Aransas, Dale and Krissy decided to go by one more fishing stop on their way back to Corpus. Needless to say, it wasn't until 2 am when they finally got back to where they were staying. As Krissy was preparing the bed Dale said to her, "Babe, I know this isn't the most romantic, but I love you so much". Still in their funky fish-smelling clothes, she turned around and saw him down on one knee. "I love you so much. Will you marry me?" She was completely taken by surprise and after a brief moment of confusion said "YES!".

Congrats my friends and I can't wait for the wedding day. This is going to be so much fun!
